I'm a small town, country girl from Colorado.  I grew up on a small farm with a large family and parents who love good, wholesome, homemade food.

I baked my first pie all by myself at age eight, at which point I also began to experiment in the kitchen through baking. Growing up, I took my cookies, cakes, breads, muffins, and pies to the county fairs year after year. It was through those years of practice that my love for baking really came out.  It is a JOY for me to bake yummy, comforting, reminders-of-home, kinds of pies!

About Dottie's

My great-grandmother, Dorothy

My great-grandmother, Dorothy

Dottie’s is inspired by my great-grandmother, Dorothy Ferguson, who invented Dottie’s Quickie Cookies.  Later, she had a little gift shop and bakery named Calico Kate’s in a small mountain town in Colorado that expanded to Arizona and Disneyland!  She was a daughter of a baker who co-owned Hacket & Walter’s bakery in Greeley, Colorado during the Great Depression. I still have many of my great-grandmother’s things from her shop and my grandma’s childhood.  I enjoy reading her recipe books and imagining myself in the Rocky Mountains as I whip up a family favorite.
